I have a couple of books I've been meaning to read. One is written by a Christian researcher, David Livermore: "Serving with Eyes Wide Open" - it deals with short-term missions context but may have some good insights. I've heard him speak at a seminar and he addressed some of the same concerns Paul Theroux expressed. Another is more on post-colonialism issues, called "I didn't do it for you: how the world betrayed a small Afican nation" by Michela Wrong, who spent 6 year as a foreign correspondent in Africa.
